Feb. 2nd, 2020 12:08 amthanks to a link from
brithistorian , I learned that currently Chinese netizens are livestreaming the building of the hospital at 火神山雷神山 and making memes of it. Especially Fork-chan (叉酱) and Shovel-chan (铲酱) (the forklifts and excavators). To the point where they currently have more fans than the usual bevy of pop stars, and there's fanart.
Anyway here's two links, both in Chinese, but with images: https://www.twoeggz.com/info/184338.html , https://xueqiu.com/1184824257/140159045
These netizens adorably call themselves 云监工 "cloud site overseers", and came up with the best nicknames for all of the trucks and construction material that they see. And of course they're all puns. I can't get over 送高宗 for cranes because translated literally it's "ancestor of sending high", but it's also a pun for Emperor Gao of the Song dynasty. smh. The cement mixers are therefore called 送灰宗 ("ancestor of sending ash"/Emperor Hui of Song), but also called 多尔衮, Dorgon, an early Qing dynasty regent, but also a pun for "Much and tumbling". Basically every vehicle has either a cutesy diminuitive or a lofty emperor name. Or both. And their job is to move fruit rolls and mochi.
If interested, a quick image search for 叉酱 医院 (fork-chan hospital) brings up relevant sites.
( Here's the rest of the list of ridiculous names )
