A way of reblogging art

I want to test the idea of reblogging art with a small image preview provided by the artist:

potofsoup made a Steve birthday comic for 2012, set right after Avengers:

The idea is this:
- The artist supplies the thumbnail image for reblogging, and includes it in the reblog snippet in their original image post. Wrap the image in a link tag so that clicking on the image also goes back to the original post.
--- It can just be an image that's shrunk down. (This is an screenshot shrunk to 25%)
--- If the artist is okay with it, it can also just be a width="200" added to the image tag
--- Imgur allows for really easy thumbnailing! How-to here

Here is a sample reblog snippet:

- If the artist doesn't provide the thumbnail but you want to reblog anyway:
--- Check if the artist has a "reblogging with thumbnail" policy
--- Ask the artist directly.


Do you think this is something that would work as a way to (a) get art in front of other people's faces, (b) encourage click-through, and (c) without reposting the artwork?

It doesn't show the whole comic but does show enough to get a sense of it, both style and plot wise. That gives me enough to know if I want to click through while still leaving enough at the main post to be worth it.

I think it's a good way to share image posts but it might be way too much effort for a reblob? Unless the artist already has a preview image.

It sounds like the artist providing the preview image is the idea! Kinda like how image-hosting sites give you the image and then various code/links to use it. More work on everyone's part, but lets artists get seen. It's a way to almost trick DW into acting like Tunglr in terms of marketing.

I seem to dimly remember the lj convention being putting a tiny preview and clicking on the cut for the full image, so if we brought that back this will work. Uggh, the hellsite's choices has really shafted fanartists.

Yeah -- the idea is the the artist does it themselves. Generating the thumbnail is more tedious if you don't want to use imgur, but it's ridiculously easy if you do. ::shrug:: That may just be enough to push me to use imgur, despite the fact that they don't officially sanction hotlinking.

We need our own version of imgur! If I'm not mistaken, it was created to meet reddit's image needs hence all the links and functions. We're all just kind of piggybacking on that.
