omg this is so awesome :o im tearing up bc of steve feels AND admiring the visual imagery in the comic?? the steve as-seen-though-tony's-eyes in the g washington outfit?? the reflection in the sunglasses?? the handshake with the armband and the old watch?? the sepia flashback?? That is some good stuff!! The prompt is one of my favourite Captain America panels (and I live in a country where they would not even show the Cap movies with their original titles because they just don't get what Captain America can stand for), and the way you have Steve and Tony talk just brings this message home wonderfully. "... or did you fly a nuke into a space portal to protect a flag?" !!!!! Talk about poignant, Your style is awesome! And the world needs comics like this one, more than ever.

Honestly, that's what sold me on Steve in the first movie: that he's about the people, not the propaganda. He's not against the Nazis or the Germans, he's against Bullies. WHAT A GOOD.

Love this! I liked that Steve got Tony to call him Steve ans drop some of the bullshit, and that last bit " I respect the elderly even if they've forgotten how math works" is so completely Tony!

Oh, wow, this was a great post! I liked how Tony realized that his usual "extra clever snark" wasn't the way to connect with Steve (instead of, you know, crossing the line into obnoxiousness). And Steve's reply was measured but full of that Steveness that makes him such a great character. V. lovely comic.

Well, my take on it is that this early in 2012, Tony is *not* there to connect with Steve. He's there to prove his dad wrong. So connecting with Steve was kind of a surprise for him. And it's not until Tony realizes that (a) Steve is actually not Captain America, but a good man, and (b) Steve is desperately lonely, that Tony's like "this is a guy I want on my crew"

I am...not a huge fan (at all) of Tony's character as it's been developed in the later MCU films. I much prefer fandom's POV, most of the time. Case in point. You did a fantastic job with him and with Steve. (But then, you always do.)

The Steve & Tony snark, Steve's response to the flag propaganda, Tony's ridiculous vision of Steve in flag gear, the Bucky&Steve flashback to the Statue of Liberty - it's all perfect with a poignant message, as usual. Lovely!

This is a FAB response to the flag panel! Going from Tony misreading Steve entirely to them both understanding each other a bit more, it's lovely. I'm a big fan of repairing the Tony & Steve relationship in MCU, and you've done it wonderfully here.

Thanks, darling. Yeah, I really want Tony and Steve to be friends, and it frustrates me that so little of that is shown on screen. :/
