1) libraries
In college, the library had these amazingly comfortable armchairs, and I would grab a book from the shelf and put it on my lap and read it and fall asleep and wake up still reading it and it was THE BEST and doing that with the Kojiki is legit one of my favorite memories from 4th year of college.

Nowadays we often take Rutabaga to the local library where there's a ton of children's books and a little puppet theater for the kids and it's an absolutely adorable place. I still miss the quiet of the armchair, though. (I really don't like interacting with other humans, it turns out)

2) growing plants
It's kind of amazing that sunlight plus water plus dirt makes plants grow??? We have a very small patch of dirt, which is currently covered in ivy, but maybe soon it won't be? It'd be cool to plant something there (b/c everything grows in California), but also, there's a lot of shade, a lot of squirrels, and a lot of ivy, so .... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3) breakfast
I haven't really had breakfast since I was 7 or 8. I think 8 was the age when my parents were like "okay, we found a walking-to-school buddy for you, so now it's your job to wake up early enough to go to school, we're gonna sleep in." And I made the very reasonable decision that the extra minutes of sleep were waaaay more important than having breakfast. I think it also helped that my parents weren't aware of the existence of cereal, so breakfast would either mean mom making 粥 (jook) from scratch, or dad microwaving some rice in some water from the night before, and it turns out ... I actually hate hot soggy rice???? Oh, sometimes mom made 花卷 and that was yummy and I'd totally grab one on the way out, but those occasions were rare.

I think there was a short period in high school when I discovered the existence of cereal and I'd have Corn Pops every morning. But then dad pointed out that they were really expensive, plus I wanted to sleep in.

And then when I first started living with Hoosband, he'd make breakfast every morning, because breakfast is his favorite meal. We'd have eggs and miso soup and cereal and toast..... until I told him, "honey, I'm glad you like breakfast, but I just want to roll out of bed as late as possible and start the day." Nowadays, my current school has free toast, so around 10:30am, after I finish my first class, I go downstairs and get a wheat toast with butter and honey. By that point I would have been up for ~4 hours, so I'm not sure if that counts as breakfast.

The meme's been floating around, and I got 3 words from [personal profile] umadoshi:

1) concrete
I always get concrete confused with cement??? It's weird to me that some people call the sidewalk "concrete", or "pavement"? Anyways, I remember I was talking to some Chinese-British person in Beijing once and she said either concrete or pavement to mean "sidewalk" and I was like "whoa, I've never heard someone say that irl".

I think nowadays I use the word most frequently when I'm explaining to parents that their student is still a rather concrete thinker and need to move beyond a simple topical argument structure.

2) ivy
There's some ivy in my backyard that I want to get rid of, along with a tree stump. So I asked the tree stump removal guy whether he can get rid of the ivy for me, too, and he gave me a quote for $900? So yeah, I'm removing that ivy myself. Which turns out to be pretty easy! So maybe I should pay myself a hefty sum for all of my hard work. ;)

I think the first time I encountered fictional girl-girl kissing was Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.

3) goldfish
I had a goldfish when I was little, because I wanted a pet. I think my parents went to Walmart to get it? Anyway, it was a very boring pet -- all of the tedium of feeding and changing the water, but none of the reward of interaction. I've basically vowed that if Rutabaga wants a pet, her starter pet will *not* be a goldfish. Probably a cat or a rodent of some kind? She's really into cats right now, especially since we traveled last month to see her god-cat. (She's named after my ex's cat)

Anyway, if folks want me to give you 3 words to write about, or want to give me 3 words to write about, just comment. Just, um... be clear whether you want to give or receive 3 words?

stole a meme from [personal profile] minoanmiss, with some tweaks:

I have 57 public works on my AO3 account (discounting RBBs where I drew the art but someone else wrote the fic.) Give me a number between 1 and 57 and I'll tell you something about that numbered piece (favorite line/panel, creative process, aspect I wish I'd done differently, etc).
1 = most recently posted work, 57 = earliest posted work.

(Note: I recently posted a bunch of my old stuff in the Great Tumblr Fuckup, so some of the more recent numbers might actually be earlier works.)
