AO3 writing fanwork questions meme

I saw this floating around recently and greatly enjoyed reading others' responses, so here's mine. Adjusted the language to be less fic-centric,
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
178! Of which... 99 works are either comics, art, or PDFs of fanbooks that I made, and 25 are collabs where I was just providing the art and someone else was doing the words. So that means the actual number of fics is 54.
2) What’s your total AO3 word count?
660,074 words listed in the stats - 363,535 words written by other people in the collabs = 296,539 words. This comes out to 5.5k words per fic, which sounds about right.
3) How many fandoms have youwritten created for and what are they?
99% Captain America, with 3 Witcher fics and 1 Untamed fic. I am... predictable.
4) What are your top 5fics works by kudos?
Egh, I typed it out but then deleted the list. Honestly not something I really care to look at.
5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
If the comment happens within a week or so of my posting the thing, I usually respond. If it's a comment just out of the blue on a random old fic, then if I'm not at work I might type out a quick response. If I'm at work when I get it, then it kind of gets lost in the flow of emails and then I don't remember until, like 6 months later, and at that point, I feel too embarrassed to respond, oops.
6) What’s thefic work you’ve written created with the angstiest ending?
Hmmm.... I try pretty hard to end most of my fics on an uplifting note. Even if one ends angstily, it's usually because there's a sequel already in existence where everything ends in fluff and recovery. The one with female!Winter Soldier who lost her kids was pretty angsty, tho, and had a more nebulous ending.
7) What’s thefic work you’ve written created with the happiest ending?
Honestly, all the ones where Steve, Bucky, and Tony reconcile. I really hated Civil War and Endgame so I'm all about writing Tony being a Reasonable Human Being re: finding out about Bucky, and Steve not letting himself be driven by anger and protectiveness and actually having a proper convo with Tony, and Bucky who actually properly apologizes to Tony. Yes. That.
8) Do youwrite create crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written created?
Nope.
9) Have you ever received hate on afic work?
No, thankfully! :D I once got anon hate in a tumblr ask that said I'm a sicko not suitable to raising a child, and that was not fun. And there was the lovely host of frustrated comments on that DW post back in 2019, which was extremely stressful. I'm...pretty conflict-avoidant, so I'm really glad that I don't get much hate.
10) Do youwrite create smut? If so what kind?
Yes. The bad kind that I hide away in a small corner.
11) Have you ever had afic work stolen?
Lolnope. I guess sometimes my comics are reposted without attribution, but that's not a frequent thing because I don't draw in a style that makes people want to steal my art lol
12) Have you ever had afic work translated?
I think I've had a few translated into Russian? Russian fandom is amazing :)
13) Have you everco-written a fic co-created a work before?
I once did a rp-via-text-chat fic thing that was really fun, but it was also very intensely creative so we stopped, and that was never posted. Honestly I think it'd be pretty fun, and if anyone would like to try with me, please hit me up! I think I'm finally at a stage in my writing where I don't feel grossly under-skilled.
I've also had some really fun collabs with authors where their words inspire me to do more art, and the art makes the author more excited to write more words, and I'm fully involved as a beta. Conversely, I've had frustrating collbs
14) What’s your all time favorite ship?
Sam/Steve/Bucky
I also quite enjoy Eskel/Geralt/Jaskier in Witcher, which has a similar vibe. A good mix of trauma, childhood friendships and new loves, and learning to have adult conversations about emotions.
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I have a WIP which is just Steve and Tony becoming friends somewhere post-IM3 and pre-TWS. It has a few fun scenes, but no real overarching direction.
I have another WIP which is WS identity fic which currently severely lacks plot. Or ... I came up with a plot for it a few years ago, and now when I look at it again, I'm like "this doesn't flow at all"
16) What are yourwriting creative strengths?
In terms of comics, I think my strength is getting some good emotional beats in a 3-4 page scene.
In terms of illustration, I think my strength is expressing emotion through body language.
In terms of writing, I'm a pretty no-frills writer, but I hope I'm getting to a point where, when you read my stuff, you're not stumbling over stuff. Also, I'm pretty allergic to mid-scene POV-shifts, so hopefully you don't see that in my writing.
17) What are yourwriting creative weaknesses?
In terms of comics, my weakness is doing action and dynamism.
In terms of illustration, my weakness is that I lean too heavily on lines, and struggle with color.
In terms of writing, I struggle with line-level writing.
In general, I'm also usually too lazy to do research, lol.
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in afic fanwork?
It doesn't come up very often, but when it does, I usually use the Google Translate version with an author's note inviting a native speaker to help improve my translation. Also, I usually prefer the "blah," she says in [language] than the actual language itself.
For Tisquantum, I did a fun thing where I scrambled the letters of the words, and used different fonts to indicate different languages, so when Squanto was first learning English, the dialogue he'd overhear would be something like "utsj a ewf more days inult paisn", and as he learned more English, more and more of the dialogue became unscrambled.
19) What was the first fandom youwrote created for?
I wrote a really shitty Kenshin fic in 2001, I think. It doesn't exist anywhere, since that was about 10 computers ago. I do have Kenshin fanart from 2000! And Harry Potter fanart, too. o.O;;;
20) What’s your favoritefic fanwork you’ve written created?
In terms of fics, I still like Echoes, and sometimes I reread Limbo and am like "oh hey, this didn't age horribly." I reread Obligation quite frequently, though it's mostly for the emotional beats and not for the actual writing.
In terms of comics, I really like Red. And a few of the Cadillac installments. And I'm pretty proud of how well the 4F ones came together.
In terms of illustrations, I really like a few of the ones that I did last year when I was drawing a pic per week.

Date: 2021-08-22 01:29 pm (UTC)I'm boggling at this, though I suppose it's the typical Tumblr shit: If you are over twenty-five please leave the internet. If you are over thirty-five please stop existing. It's why, I must admit, I never mention anything about my current personal life on Tumblr, especially my age and that I have kids!
and as he learned more English, more and more of the dialogue became unscrambled.
I love this idea.

Date: 2021-08-22 02:55 pm (UTC)Mmm I think the other person was over 25, but mostly they did not react well to finding my smut, I think.
And yeah, Tisquantum was fun to do, although also exhausting, lol.
