I guess it's a good sign when I go to reread and old work and go "ew" -- that means I may have gotten better at writing????????????? (although there are also old ficlets of mine where I read it and am like "dang, that's actually way better than anything I've written recently, so....)

I always feel so strange about this view taken on people's old writing tbh. It makes me feel weird about my own work because I've honestly never reread my old writing and just went straight out, "Ew, gross."

Like there are definitely things that I would've done differently now, and things that I remember having a hard time tackling that I feel much more comfortable with now. But there's also a lot of stuff that I like about my old writing, things that I can look back on and still be proud of I guess. It's always something that I remember working harder to improve at, and the old story is a testament to me wrestling with that particular weakness and improving on it.

But me not hating things I've written years ago comes with this insecurity that maybe the only reason why I feel this way is because I truly haven't improved as much as I thought I did.
