Late to the Snowflake Challenge this year but I'm gonna catch up! Mostly by doing the easier ones first. XD

Challenge #4: In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

Fannish goals:
- actually finish writing a fic (writing is hard!!)
- draw at least 3 fan comics
- watch Falcon and Winter Soldier
- continue feeling connected to fandom

Non-Fannish goals:
- Finish Rutabaga Project
- Finish Tisquantum
- Draw more comics about climate hope
- Learn how the publishing industry works

General life goals:
- Don't overwork (hahahaha)
- Be there for Rutabaga as she turns 4
- Don't take advantage of the supportiveness of Hoosband to then overwork
- Possibly take care of my general health

Challenge #6: In your own space, make a list of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, or that you'd like someone to make for you.

1. More fics of people being friends. Gen stuff is where it's at!

2. More fics that are outside of the fandom normative experience (middle class suburbia white guys being gay.) I know some of it is "write what you know," But also -- fics centered around female experiences, around being a poc, around rural/urban living, around myths and stories of our many ethnic backgrounds...

3. Asynchronous email or discord correspondence. I think that's the level of fandom interaction that works for me rn. So if anyone ever felt like chatting, lob me an email! (I'm also on discord at potofsoup#8889 , which is such a lucky Chinese number that I can't even)

Challenge #2: In your own space, talk about your fannish history.
Pre-fandom: a lot of reading of 三国演义 and 金庸. Lots of daydreaming of waving a 大刀 around and defeating bad guys

9th grade (1998): got email, discovered Rurouni Kenshin, signed up for a bajillion Kenshin fanfic mailing lists.

Rest of high school (1998-2002): Weiss Kreuz, Harry Potter, Gundam Wing. I think I wrote 2 really short fics, one for Kenshin, and one for Gundam Wing. Also made a website for my fandom friend's webcomic, Strings of Fate. I have some atrocious Gundam Wing, Harry Potter, and Kenshin fanart from those days. And dial-up made everything so text-focused.

College (2002-2006): I was a serious person who ran the college anime club but did not participate in fandom. (Plus fandom was on LJ and the comment-verse never made sense to me.)

Post-college (2006-2014): Stopped watching anime. Read some Homestucks. Drew one Homestuck fanart for funzies? Mostly focused on job and original comics. Oh, also did casual cosplay at anime conventions as ... Azuma Kazuma from Yakitate Japan, Toph from A:TLA, Vriska and Meenah from Homestuck, Youshi from Giant Robo.... etc.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014): Got on tumblr about 3 months before CA:TWS came out. The film came out and then 4 things happened in one fateful week: (1) a friend of mine on tumblr linked to an AO3 stucky fic, (2) I did a tumblr tag search for Bucky Barnes, (3) I wanted to try out my new drawing tablet, (4) my school had spring break. By the end of that week, I had read 200,000 words of various fics, gotten my own AO3 account, and posted a tumblr doodle.

And for some reason, I'm still here, 6 years later.
