It's true that there's frequently het ship hate (which is weird to me because I started in RK fandom in 1999 and it was pretty much 70% het ships), but in this particular case, it *is* complicated by racism. sort of. I was being vague in the original post, but this is specifically about Yennefer in The Witcher. She is played by an Indian-British actress, and part of fandom has definitely decided to lean into her being a WoC (even though it's a bit strange since it's unclear what they consider Yennefer's ethnicity to be in the show, I do deeply empathize with the desire to see non-white main characters on the screen). Of course, the dominant ship is Geralt/Jaskier, whereas Geralt/Yennefer is the canon ship. Anyways, I've definitely read plenty of Geralt/Jaskier fics where many paragraphs are spent explaining why Yennefer is completely wrong for Geralt due to x traits, whereas Jaskier, who has some rather similar traits, is perfect for Geralt. Fans who are invested in Finally Having A WoC Main Character are upset by this constant sidelining, and see it not as slash shippers bashing a het ship, but as shippers bashing a WoC. So... it's definitely complicated, because of course this is contextualized by all the other times a fan might feel isolated and under-represented in media and fandom. (I know I've definitely looked around and said "wait, I've spent the last 6 years reading and writing fics about 2 cis white guys?!")
Hence, this post.
I prefer thinking of kink as part of the asexual/demisexual/allosexual spectrum instead of the sexual orientation spectrum, mostly because I think of the former as "whether/when you want to have sex" and the latter as "who you'd like to sex/romance with." For me, personally, I am pretty bi/pansexual, as in, I'm happy to kiss and have sex with whichever gender. However, the degree to which I want to have sex really depends on the type of sex it is -- I feel pretty ace/neutral when it comes to vanilla sex, for example. Like, I don't mind it, so I'm not sex-repulsed, just sex-bored.
