So... school started for realz last week (after 2 weeks of back-to-back retreats, and a panicked compilation of a 15 page report, woo). And somehow I lost the middle of the week to mainlining a 250k fic. (I think it's one of those "where should my start-of-school anxiety go? obviously not to anything productive" sort of situations.) But anyway now I think I've re-established equilibrium, yay!
I'm going to try my darndest to keep school work at school, although between taiko and the resumption of Chinese School on Saturdays, I'm guessing I'm going to be spending a lot of non-work non-baby time just ... chillin'.
I've been reading some Guardian off-and-on today and it's just so nice to read something that's obviously grounded in Chinese mythology, where there are legit Hungry Ghosts and Hanging Ghosts and where 令牌 are a Thing. As well as Chinese bureaucracy. (Kind of side-eyeing the bit where Zhao Yunlan is like "we are police and as police, we must consider all people innocent until proven guilty and not take any action against them until we have sufficient evidence" and I'm like "... yes.") The going is slow, so I've of course read the Baidu short summary and I'm kinda "wow" over the fact that fucking Pangu and Nuwa are going to make an appearance because messing with creation myths is pretty bold. And also 沈巍's name has a goddamn mountain in it, for reasons. So adorable. And even though I'm only on chapter 9,the author really leans hard into the whole "thousand-year-long thirst and pining" plus the "hyper-protective of my idiot" thing.
I really want to finish Rutabaga comics, but what's left is inking, which is both tedious and hard. :(
At least the Dark Crystal Netflix series seems okay.

ahahaha I was gonna say that I usually keep my personal DW slightly more updated than potofsoup, but I checked there and it's actually even less updated. August and September tend to be pretty brutal months for me, as is January. The rest of the months tend to even out, though. Mostly it's just that I'm not really excited about my creative project, :P

*g* The show leans hard into those as well, although its approach to the former is a bit different than the book's.

haha, yeah I'm sure. although "Shen Wei getting so drunk that he mauls Zhao Yunlan and then passes straight out of his body" was ... pretty desperate
