(I didn't actually bond with his novel iteration at all, but I'm very fond of him in the drama. After I read this post I went and rewatched the drama take on this scene--about seven minutes into ep. 1--which is missing all of the in-his-head stuff about dealing with anxiety about it, but a lot of it still comes through, and then he's thrown into the SID and doesn't exactly take it in stride.)
