Yes! I didn't connect with Carol/Vers at all until I got a sense, however small, of who she was previously. Lashana Lynch does most of the emotional heavy lifting in this movie, and it's through Maria's eyes that we finally start to see who Carol is. But she won't get credit for that and it makes me mad.
