*frowns into the distance* It seems difficult to blame racism for the bashing of a character who passes for white...? No, object level, not important, we're on the meta level. I think the discourse could be compared to that around Finn in the Star Wars sequels, if we want to bring the discourse juggernaut into the room: "oh wow finally there's a POC main character, I can't--wait, everybody wants to watch the two white people kiss? WTF??" I'm sure it can be very alienating.
But of course there's the additional "two wrongs don't make a right" element: if you (general you) feel hurt or alienated in fandom by others bashing your ship, doing the same to them doesn't fix that.
RE: kink, yes--I think of it all as points on a many-dimensional graph rather than spectrums per se. For example I am bi/pan, ace, and kinky--the kinkiness doesn't override the aceness entirely (rather unfortunately), but it can boost my interest. In stories, where I'm most comfortable sexually, the right kink has been known to cover up for all kinds of things that would otherwise be squicks.
